Toyota Camry lug nut torque by year

From 2005 through the 2018–2024 XV70, Toyota prints 76 ft-lb (103 N·m, 10.5 kgf·m) for the Camry. The 2000–2003 manuals print 77 ft·lbf with 104 or 103 N·m. That is the same 10.5 kgf·m, rounded differently, not a different spec.

Values as printed in the manufacturer’s owner’s manual for the year shown, not converted. Years between two checked manuals of the same generation are assumed to share the value. Open a row to read the exact wording.

What the owner’s manual says

  • Re-check: When installing aluminum wheels, check that the wheel nuts are tight after driving your vehicle the first 1600 km (1000 miles).
  • Re-check: When rotating, repairing or changing your tires, check that the wheel nuts are still tight after driving 1000 miles (1600 km).
  • Threads: Never use oil or grease on the bolts or nuts.
  • Threads: Never use oil or grease on the wheel bolts or wheel nuts.

What the manuals show by year

Every Camry manual we read prints the same 10.5 kgf·m. Only the ft-lb and N·m rounding moved:

  • XV20 (2000–2001): 104 (10.5, 77), meaning 104 N·m and 77 ft·lbf 3.
  • Early XV30 (2002, and 2003 built through Dec. 2002): 104 (10.5, 77) 5.
  • 2003 built from Jan. 2003: 103 (10.5, 77) 4.
  • XV30, 2005–2006: 103 (10.5, 76) 1.
  • XV40 (2007–2011): 103 N·m, 76 ft·lbf in the 2007 and 2008 manuals 6.
  • XV70 (2018–2024): 76 ft•lbf (103 N•m, 10.5 kgf•m) in the 2019 and 2023 manuals. The flat-tire step repeats “Tightening torque: 76 ft•lbf (103 N•m, 10.5 kgf•m)” 2.

For a modern Camry the number is 76 ft-lb. Some sites give a much higher rear-wheel figure for the XV50 and XV70. That number is not in Toyota’s manuals, which list one wheel nut torque for all four wheels.

Re-check and thread condition

Older manuals say: “When installing aluminum wheels, check that the wheel nuts are tight after driving your vehicle the first 1600 km (1000 miles)” 6. The XV70 manual applies the check to any tire work: “When rotating, repairing or changing your tires, check that the wheel nuts are still tight after driving 1000 miles (1600 km)” 2. From the 2003 manual on, Toyota adds “Never use oil or grease on the bolts or nuts” 4. Tighten in a crisscross pattern and finish with a torque wrench (lug nut tightening guide).

Years we have not checked

We have not been able to get any XV50 manual (2012–2017). Toyota’s download host blocked us and no archived copy exists. The 2004 and 2009–2011 manuals were also out of reach. The XV40 value comes from 2007 and 2008. For the 2025-and-later XV80, Toyota’s site lists no owner’s manual PDF, so we publish no value for it. No Camry owner’s manual gives an oil drain plug or brake caliper torque.
