Values as printed in the manufacturer’s owner’s manual for the year shown, not converted. Years between two checked manuals of the same generation are assumed to share the value. Open a row to read the exact wording.
What the owner’s manual says
- Re-check: When installing aluminum wheels, check that the wheel nuts are tight after driving your vehicle the first 1600 km (1000 miles).
- Re-check: When rotating, repairing or changing your tires, check that the wheel nuts are still tight after driving 1000 miles (1600 km).
- Threads: Never use oil or grease on the bolts or nuts.
- Threads: Never use oil or grease on the wheel bolts or wheel nuts.
What the manuals show by generation
- E110 (2001–2002): 102.9 (10.5, 76) in the 2001 and 2002 manuals 1.
- Early E130 (2003): 102.9 N·m, 76 ft·lbf 3.
- E130 (2004–2008): 103 (10.5, 76), checked in every year from 2004 to 2008 4.
- E170 sedan (2014–2019): 76 ft•lbf (103 N•m, 10.5 kgf•m) in the 2017 and 2019 manuals. The flat-tire step repeats “Tightening torque: 76 ft•lbf (103 N•m, 10.5 kgf•m)” 5.
- E210 (2020 on): 76 ft•lbf (103 N•m, 10.5 kgf•m) in the 2023 manuals 2.
The 102.9 vs 103 N·m split is rounding. The ft-lb and kgf·m values are identical across it. The torque is the same as on the Camry and RAV4, so one wrench setting covers all three cars.
The E170 rows come from sedan manuals, built at the TMMMS and TMMC plants. The 2019 Corolla hatchback is an E210 with its own manual, which we were not able to retrieve.
Re-check and thread condition
The E130 and earlier manuals say: “When installing aluminum wheels, check that the wheel nuts are tight after driving your vehicle the first 1600 km (1000 miles)” 4. The 2019 manual extends it to any tire work: “When rotating, repairing or changing your tires, check that the wheel nuts are still tight after driving 1000 miles (1600 km)” 5. Our text search of the 2023 manual found no re-check sentence. It does carry the thread warning: “Never use oil or grease on the wheel bolts or wheel nuts” 2. Tighten in a crisscross pattern and finish with a torque wrench (lug nut tightening guide).
Years we have not checked
We have not been able to get any E140 manual (2009–2013), the 2014–2016 E170 manuals, or the E210 manuals other than 2023 (2020–2022 and 2024–2026). The E210 range is inferred from the 2023 manuals. No Corolla owner’s manual lists an oil drain plug or brake caliper torque.
