Hyundai Elantra lug nut torque by year

The Elantra wheel torque is printed as a range. It has been 79-94 ft-lb (107-127 N·m, 11-13 kgf·m) since the 2017 AD generation, and the same range appears in the 2026 manual. The 2010–2016 manuals (HD and MD) print 65-79 ft-lb (88-107 N·m) for steel and alloy wheels.

Values as printed in the manufacturer’s owner’s manual for the year shown, not converted. Years between two checked manuals of the same generation are assumed to share the value. Open a row to read the exact wording.

What the owner’s manual says

  • Re-check: After changing tires, have an authorized HYUNDAI dealer tighten the wheel nuts to their proper torque as soon as possible.

What changed between generations

  • HD (4th gen): the 2010 Canadian manual prints “Wheel lug nut torque kg•m (lbft, Nm) 9~11 (65~79, 88~107)” 3. The 2011 manual is the same. We have only the 2010–2011 HD manuals, so 2007–2009 are not verified.
  • MD/UD (5th gen, 2011–2016): unchanged at 9~11 kg•m (65~79 lb•ft, 88~107 N•m), with “Steel wheel & aluminum alloy wheel” in the tire-change section 4.
  • AD (6th gen, 2017–2020, including the 2019 facelift): raised to 11~13 kgf•m (79~94 lbf•ft, 107~127 N•m) 1.
  • CN7 facelift (2024–2026): 79-94 lbf·ft (107-127 N·m) for the 15 to 18 in. wheels 2.

Any value inside the range is to spec. On the AD and later cars, the old upper limit, 79, is the new lower limit. A setting from a 2016 car is at the bottom edge of the newer range.

Re-check and thread condition

The Elantra manuals give no re-torque mileage. The instruction is to “have an authorized HYUNDAI dealer tighten the wheel nuts to their proper torque as soon as possible” after a tire change 2. We found no statement on oiled or dry threads and no thread size. The manuals do warn about thread type. From 2014 the wording is “Your vehicle has metric threads on the studs and lug nuts. Make certain during tire changing that the same nuts that were removed are reinstalled.” Earlier manuals add that replacement nuts must have “metric threads and the same chamfer configuration.” Tighten in a star pattern and finish with a torque wrench (lug nut tightening guide).

Years we have not checked

We have not found an official owner’s manual for the 2001–2006 XD Elantra. Hyundai Canada’s archive starts at 2010, the UK download page does not list it, and the US owner site requires a login. The 2007–2009 HD years are not directly verified. This page has no row for 2021–2023. No Elantra manual we read prints an oil drain plug or brake caliper torque.
