Ram 1500 lug nut torque by year

The Ram 1500 is 130 ft-lb (176 N·m) with cone lug nuts on M14 x 1.50 studs and a 22 mm socket. That holds in every manual from 2012 to 2026, for the DS, the 1500 Classic and the 2019-and-later DT. The 2012 and 2018 manuals also list a flanged nut at 129 ft-lb (175 N·m).

Values as printed in the manufacturer’s owner’s manual for the year shown, not converted. Years between two checked manuals of the same generation are assumed to share the value. Open a row to read the exact wording.

What the owner’s manual says

  • Re-check: After 25 miles (40 km), check the lug nut/bolt torque to be sure that all the lug nuts/bolts are properly seated against the wheel.
  • Re-check: After 25 miles (40 km), check the lug nut/bolt torque to be sure that all the lug nuts/bolts are properly tightened.
  • Threads: NOTE: Do not oil wheel studs. For chrome wheels, do not substitute with chrome plated wheel nuts.
  • Threads: NOTE: Dual wheels are flat mounted, center piloted. ... Do not oil wheel studs.
  • Threads: Use only authorized dealer recommended lug nuts/bolts and clean or remove any dirt or oil before tightening.

What changed between generations

  • 2008 (3rd gen DR): the flat-tire procedure gives 135 ft lbs (183 N·m) for 1500/2500/3500 single-rear-wheel models. The same sentence covers all three trucks, so it is not a 1500-only figure 5.
  • 2011 (4th gen DS): the procedure splits the trucks. The 1500 Series is 130 ft lbs (177 N·m), and 2500/3500 single-rear-wheel models stay at 135 4. Note that this manual prints 177 N·m, not 176.
  • 2012–2018 (DS): a “Wheel Nuts” chart replaces the sentence. It lists M14 x 1.5, 22 mm hex, cone 130 ft-lb (176 N·m) and flanged 129 ft-lb (175 N·m) 1 3. These manuals cover 1500 through 3500, and the flanged row may belong to the heavy-duty and dual-wheel trucks. Use the row that matches your nut.
  • 2019 on (DT) and the 1500 Classic: the 2022 DT, 2022 Classic and 2026 DT manuals list only the cone nut, 130 ft-lb (176 N·m), M14 x 1.50, 22 mm 7 6 2.

Some charts give one heavier value for every 1500 from 2009 to 2019. They also treat the 2019 DS and the new 2019 DT as one truck. The Mopar manuals give 130 for the 1500 from 2011 on and list the Classic and DT separately.

The 2008 and 2011 manuals also print a chart for 9/16-18 studs. It sits under the dual-rear-wheel text in manuals that cover the 2500/3500, so we don’t list it as a 1500 spec.

Re-check and thread condition

The 2018-and-later manuals say: “After 25 miles (40 km), check the lug nut/bolt torque to be sure that all the lug nuts/bolts are properly seated against the wheel” 6. Thread condition is spelled out: “Do not oil wheel studs. For chrome wheels, do not substitute with chrome plated wheel nuts” 2. The Classic manual adds “clean or remove any dirt or oil before tightening” 7. Mopar manuals call for a star pattern. Our lug nut tightening guide covers the passes.

Years we have not checked

We have not found the 2002–2007 DR or the 2009–2010 DS owner’s manuals on the Mopar host. The 2019–2021 DT and 2023–2024 Classic manuals were not checked one by one. No Mopar owner’s manual we read gives an oil drain plug or brake caliper torque.
