Ford F-150 lug nut torque by year

Every F-150 since 2015, including the Raptor and the F-150 Lightning, is 150 ft-lb (204 N·m) on M14 x 1.5 studs. Before that the stud was M14 x 2.0 at 150 ft-lb (200 N·m), and the 2003 Heavy Payload seven-lug wheel was 100 ft-lb (135 N·m) on M12 x 1.75.

Values as printed in the manufacturer’s owner’s manual for the year shown, not converted. Years between two checked manuals of the same generation are assumed to share the value. Open a row to read the exact wording.

What the owner’s manual says

  • Re-check: Retighten the lug nuts to the specified torque at 800 km (500 miles) after any wheel disturbance (rotation, flat tire, wheel removal, etc.).
  • Re-check: Retighten the lug nuts to the specified torque within 100 miles (160 km) after any wheel disturbance (rotation, flat tire, wheel removal, etc.).
  • Re-check: Retighten the lug nuts to the specified torque within 100 miles (160 kilometers) after any wheel disturbance (such as tire rotation, changing a flat tire, wheel removal).
  • Re-check: Retighten the lug nuts to the specified torque within 100 miles (160 kilometers) after any wheel disturbance, such as tire rotation, changing a flat tire or wheel removal.
  • Re-check: Retighten the wheel nuts to the specified torque within 100 mi (160 km) after any wheel disturbance, such as tire rotation, changing a flat tire or wheel removal.
  • Threads: Torque specifications are for nut and bolt threads free of dirt and rust. Use only Ford recommended replacement fasteners.
  • Threads: Torque specifications are for nut and bolt threads free of dirt and rust. Use only Ford recommended replacement fasteners. Also: 'DO NOT apply grease to lugnut/stud holes or wheel-to-brake surfaces.' (grease only a dime-size amount on wheel pilot hole surface)
  • Threads: Torque specifications are for nut and bolt threads free of dirt and rust. Use only our recommended replacement fasteners.

What changed between generations

The torque number barely moved in 20 years. What changed was the stud. Through the 12th generation (2009–2014) Ford printed M14 x 2.0 at 150 ft-lb (200 N·m) 6 8. The 2015 truck switched to a finer M14 x 1.5 thread, and the metric figure became 204 N·m while the ft-lb stayed at 150 1. The 2020 manual says the same value covers the Raptor 9, and the 14th-generation manuals for 2021, 2022 and 2025 print it unchanged 10 5.

Two oddities are worth knowing before you set the wrench:

  • 2014: that year’s manual prints 148 lb.ft (200 Nm) on the same M14 x 2.0 stud that the 2009 manual lists at 150 3. We publish it as printed.
  • 2003: the 10th-generation guide has two rows. The five-lug wheel is M14 x 2.0 at 150 ft-lb (200 N·m). The seven-lug wheel with the Heavy Payload Package is M12 x 1.75 at 100 ft-lb (135 N·m) 4. Some charts pair 100 ft-lb with the 14 mm stud, but that combination is not in Ford’s table. Count the lugs on your truck first.

The F-150 Lightning uses the gas truck’s spec: 150 ft-lb (204 N·m), M14 x 1.5, in both the 2022 and 2024 manuals 2 12.

Re-check and thread condition

Current manuals say: “Retighten the wheel nuts to the specified torque within 100 mi (160 km) after any wheel disturbance, such as tire rotation, changing a flat tire or wheel removal” 5. The 2004 guide gave 500 miles (800 km) instead 6. Every manual states that the torque is “for nut and bolt threads free of dirt and rust”. The 2008 guide adds “DO NOT apply grease to lugnut/stud holes or wheel-to-brake surfaces” and allows only a dime-size amount on the wheel pilot hole 7. Run the nuts down in a star pattern, then make the final pass with a torque wrench (lug nut tightening guide).

The 2022 manual also gives a hot-wheel check figure of 70 lb.ft (95 Nm), but only for Driver Training/EVOC use after 15 minutes of that kind of driving. The normal cold torque is still 150 lb.ft (204 Nm) 11.

Years we have not checked

We have not found or checked the 2000–2002 owner guides. The 2016–2019, 2023–2024 and 2026 manuals were not checked one by one. Every 13th- and 14th-generation manual we did read gives the same value. No F-150 owner’s manual from 2003 to 2025 gives an oil drain plug or brake caliper torque, so this page doesn’t list one.
