Chevy Silverado & GMC Sierra 1500 lug nut torque by year
Chevrolet Silverado 1500 and GMC Sierra 1500 wheel nuts are 140 ft-lb (190 N·m). That value appears in every GM owner's manual we checked from 2001 to 2026, across the GMT800, GMT900, K2 and T1 trucks. The 2500 HD, 3500 HD and dual-rear-wheel trucks use the same number.

Values as printed in the manufacturer’s owner’s manual for the year shown, not converted. Years between two checked manuals of the same generation are assumed to share the value. Open a row to read the exact wording.

One value across four generations
The Silverado 1500 has had the simplest lug spec of any full-size pickup. The GMT800 manuals for 2001 and 2004 list the 6-bolt 1500/2500 and the 8-bolt 3500 at the same 140 lb-ft (190 N·m) and give the bolt size as 14 mm 1 6. GMT900 (2007, 2011, 2013), K2 (2014, 2018) and T1 (2019, 2026) manuals print 140 lb ft and 190 N·m, unchanged 7 10 5 2. The 2022 Silverado 2500 HD/3500 HD manual uses the same figure 4.
The GMC Sierra shares the platform and the spec. We checked Sierra manuals for 2002, 2005 (2500HD listing), 2007, 2012, 2014, 2020 and 2024. Every one prints 140 ft-lb (190 N·m) 12 13 3.
Because nothing changed, the useful question is not which year. It is whether a chart that gives a different number for your truck is wrong. GM’s own manuals give no other wheel nut value for these trucks. The manuals don’t print the thread pitch, only “14 mm”.
Re-check and thread condition
GM does not print a single-wheel re-torque mileage in these manuals. The instruction after a tire change is that “the wheel nuts should be tightened with a torque wrench to the proper torque specification after replacing” 2. For dual rear wheels the 2018 manual adds: “have a technician check the wheel nut tightness of all wheels with a torque wrench after the first 160, 1 600 and 10 000 km (100, 1,000 and 6,000 mi)” 5. The 2011 manual gave 100 miles and then 1,000 miles after that 8.
The thread warning is blunt and appears in every edition: “Never use oil or grease on bolts or nuts because the nuts might come loose” 2. Pre-2009 manuals word it “Never use oil or grease on studs or nuts” 1. Use a star pattern, snug every nut, then make the final pass with a torque wrench (lug nut tightening guide).
Years we have not checked
We did not fetch a 2016–2018 Sierra manual separately. The 2018 Silverado, on the same platform, gives the same value. No Silverado or Sierra owner’s manual lists an oil drain plug or brake caliper bolt torque. Those are in GM’s paid service information, so we don’t publish them here.
