Tesla Model Y lug nut torque by year
Every Model Y is 129 ft-lb (175 N·m) on five lug nuts with a 21 mm socket, from the 2020 car through the 2025-and-later Juniper refresh. The value comes from Tesla's service manual, which also lists the caliper bolts. The 2025+ RWD front caliper uses different bolts from the Dual Motor car.

Wheels: one value for both versions
The Technical Data page in both the 2020–2024 and the 2025+ service manuals reads “Lug Nut Torque: 175 Nm (129 lb. ft.) Lug Nut Socket Size: 21 mm” 1 2. That is the same figure as the Model 3. One wrench setting covers every Tesla on this site.
Tesla’s procedure, as written in the Model 3 Wheel Assembly page that these rows reference, is: “Use a power tool to tighten the lug nuts (x5) of the wheel to the initial torque in a criss-cross star pattern”. The final torque pass comes after the car is lowered. Tesla also says “Use only hand tools to break the lug nuts loose” and “Use a 6 point socket. Do not use a 12 point socket or a specialty socket.” The star pattern is covered in our lug nut tightening guide.
Brake caliper bolts
The service manual gives the caliper torques in the table above. Note which bolts Tesla says to replace:
- Front caliper to knuckle (2020–2024, and 2025+ Dual Motor): 94 Nm (69.3 lbs-ft), External Torx E18, “Replace” 3 4.
- 2025+ RWD front caliper to caliper bracket: 32 Nm (23.6 lbs-ft), External Torx E12, “Reuse” 5. The RWD car uses a different front brake from the Dual Motor, so don’t apply the 94 Nm knuckle figure to these bolts.
- Rear caliper bracket to knuckle (2020–2024) and rear caliper to knuckle (2025+): 83 Nm (61.2 lbs-ft), “Replace” 6 5.
- Rear caliper to rear caliper bracket: 26.5 Nm (19.5 lbs-ft), 14 mm socket, “Reuse”, in both manuals 7 5.
Single-use bolts are part of the procedure. A replaced caliper with reused “Replace” bolts doesn’t follow Tesla’s spec, even at the right torque.
What we have not checked
Tesla’s online owner’s manual refused our requests, so we have not verified the owner’s manual text. This page cites the service manual. The Model Y has no engine oil drain plug, and we have not researched drive-unit drain plug torque.
