Toyota RAV4 lug nut torque by year
Every RAV4 owner's manual we checked, from 2000 to the 2016 fourth-generation car, gives 76 ft-lb (103 N·m, 10.5 kgf·m). The 2001 manual applies that single value to both steel and aluminum wheels. We have not yet found a 2019-or-later manual.

Values as printed in the manufacturer’s owner’s manual for the year shown, not converted. Years between two checked manuals of the same generation are assumed to share the value. Open a row to read the exact wording.
What the owner’s manual says
- Re-check: When installing aluminum wheels, check that the wheel nuts are tight after driving your vehicle the first 1600 km (1000 miles).
- Re-check: When rotating, repairing or changing your tires, check that the wheel nuts are still tight after driving 1000 miles (1600 km).
- Threads: Never use oil or grease on the bolts or nuts.
- Threads: Never use oil or grease on the wheel bolts or wheel nuts.
What the manuals show by generation
Toyota has printed the RAV4 wheel nut torque the same way for four generations: N·m first, then kgf·m and ft·lbf.
- XA10 (2000 manual): 103 (10.5, 76) 1.
- XA20 (2001–2005): the same 103 N·m, checked in every year from 2001 to 2005. The 2001 table lists a steel 16x6.5J wheel and an aluminum 16x7JJ wheel with one torque 3.
- XA30 (2006–2012): unchanged in the 2006, 2007 and 2008 manuals 4. The 2008 manual repeats it in the tire-change steps: “Have the wheel nuts tightened with torque wrench to 103 N·m (10.5 kgf·m, 76 ft·lbf).”
- XA40 (2013–2018): the 2016 manual gives 76 ft•lbf (103 N•m, 10.5 kgf•m) in the specifications and the flat-tire steps 2. This is the only fourth-generation manual we could get, so the other XA40 years are inferred from it.
Unlike the Tundra, the RAV4 manuals don’t split steel and aluminum wheels. The XA20 and XA30 manuals print one value for every wheel. That is also the value Toyota uses on the Camry, Corolla and Highlander.
Re-check and thread condition
The wording changed with the generations. Through the XA30 the manuals say: “When installing aluminum wheels, check that the wheel nuts are tight after driving your vehicle the first 1600 km (1000 miles)” 4. The 2016 manual widens it: “When rotating, repairing or changing your tires, check that the wheel nuts are still tight after driving 1000 miles (1600 km)” 2. The thread rule is “Never use oil or grease on the wheel bolts or wheel nuts” 2. Tighten in a crisscross pattern and finish with a torque wrench (lug nut tightening guide).
Years we have not checked
We have not been able to get the 2019–2025 XA50 manuals or any 2026 XA60 manual. Toyota’s download site blocked our requests, no archived copy exists, and Toyota lists no 2026 PDF. We don’t carry the older value forward to those years. Check the specifications page of your own manual. No RAV4 owner’s manual lists an oil drain plug or brake caliper torque.
