How the Toyota models compare
- 76 ft-lb (103 N·m): RAV4 2000–2016 2. Camry 2005–2024; the 2000–2003 manuals print 77 ft·lbf for the same 10.5 kgf·m 1. Corolla 2001–2023, where early manuals print 102.9 N·m. Highlander 2001–2019.
- Tacoma: 83 ft-lb (110 N·m) in the 1st generation, 85 ft-lb (113 N·m) in the 2nd, and 83 ft-lb (113 N·m) in the 3rd (2016–2023). Each manual gives one value for steel and aluminum wheels 3.
- Tundra: 83 ft-lb (110 N·m) for 2000–2006. From 2007, taper-seat nuts on steel wheels take 154 ft-lb (209 N·m) and flat-washer nuts on aluminum wheels take 97 ft-lb (131 N·m). A steel spare is torqued to the steel value 4.
The Tundra is the clearest case on this site of wheel material changing the spec. Some generic charts say material doesn’t matter, but Toyota’s Tundra manuals print two figures that are far apart. Check which wheel and nut you have before you set the wrench.
What the Toyota manuals say
Toyota’s thread warning is “Never use oil or grease on the wheel bolts or wheel nuts” 1. Older manuals ask for a check after the first 1,000 miles when fitting aluminum wheels. Newer ones say: “When rotating, repairing or changing your tires, check that the wheel nuts are still tight after driving 1000 miles (1600 km)”. No Toyota owner’s manual we read gives the stud thread size, a drain plug torque or a brake caliper torque.
Toyota’s download host blocked many recent manuals, and no archived copies exist. That covers the 2019+ RAV4, 2020+ Highlander, 2022+ Tundra, 2024+ Tacoma and 2025+ Camry. We don’t extend older values to those generations. For the tightening order see the lug nut tightening guide.
