Honda Civic lug nut torque by year

The Civic sedan is 80 ft-lb (108 N·m, 11 kgf·m) in every Honda manual we checked: 2001, the 2017 and 2021 10th generation, and the 2022 11th generation. The sedan manuals also give the oil drain bolt torque, 30 lbf∙ft (40 N∙m), with a new washer.

What the manuals show

  • 7th generation (2001–2005): the 2001 online-reference manual says in step 15 of the flat-tire section, “Tighten the wheel nuts to: 80 lbf·ft (108 N·m, 11 kgf·m)” 1.
  • 10th generation sedan (2016–2021): the 2017 and 2021 sedan manuals give “Wheel nut torque: 80 lbf∙ft (108 N∙m, 11 kgf∙m)” 3 4.
  • 11th generation sedan (2022 on): the 2022 sedan manual prints the same figure 2.

These are sedan manuals only. Honda publishes separate manuals for the coupe, hatchback, Si and Type R, and we have not verified any of them. Some sites give one higher value for every 2021-and-later Civic, but the sedan manuals print 80. If you have a Type R or Si, use the manual for that exact model.

Honda’s flat-tire pages give no re-torque mileage and no statement about lubricated threads. They do say: “Do not over tighten the wheel nuts by applying extra torque using your foot or a pipe” 4. The 2001 manual adds: “Have the wheel nut torque checked at the nearest automotive service facility” 1. For the tightening order, see our lug nut tightening guide.

Oil drain bolt

The 2017, 2021 and 2022 sedan manuals print: “Put a new washer on the drain bolt, then reinstall the drain bolt. Tightening torque: 30 lbf∙ft (40 N∙m, 4.0 kgf∙m)” 3 2. The drain-plug table above lists it by year. The oil drain plug torque page compares it across makes. The manual does not split the figure by engine. Fit the new washer it calls for.

Years we have not checked

We have not found the 2002–2005 manuals, the 2006–2011 8th-generation or 2012–2015 9th-generation manuals on Honda’s technical site, or the 2016 Civic manual (2017 is used). The Si, Type R and hatchback values are not verified. No Civic owner’s manual gives a brake caliper torque.
