Values as printed in the manufacturer’s owner’s manual for the year shown, not converted. Years between two checked manuals of the same generation are assumed to share the value. Open a row to read the exact wording.

What the owner’s manual says

  • Re-check: Retighten the wheel nuts when the vehicle has been driven for 600 miles (1,000 km) (also in cases of a flat tire, etc.).
  • Threads: Do not use oil or grease on the wheel studs or nuts. This could cause the nuts to become loose.

What the manuals show

  • 5th generation (L33, 2013–2018): the 2013 sedan manual prints “Wheel nut tightening torque: 113 N·m (83 ft-lb)”, metric first 1. The 2018 manual prints 83 ft-lb (113 N·m) 3.
  • 6th generation (L34, 2019 on): 83 ft-lb (113 N·m) in the 2019 and 2025 manuals 4 2.

Unlike the Rogue, which dropped to 80 ft-lb for 2024, the Altima has kept 83 in every manual we read. Check which Nissan you are working on before you set the wrench.

Re-check and thread condition

Every Altima manual we read includes the same two instructions. “Retighten the wheel nuts when the vehicle has been driven for 600 miles (1,000 km) (also in cases of a flat tire, etc.)” And: “Do not use oil or grease on the wheel studs or nuts. This could cause the nuts to become loose” 2. The torque appears in both the flat-tire and tire-rotation sections. Tighten in a star pattern and finish with a torque wrench (lug nut tightening guide).

Oil drain plug

The Altima’s drain plug value is less settled than its wheel torque:

  • 2013: 29 - 39 N·m (22 - 29 ft-lb) 1.
  • 2018: a single 25 ft-lb (34 N·m) 3. The manual text does not tie this value to an engine.
  • 2019: 22 to 28 ft-lb (29 to 39 N·m) 4.
  • 2025: 22 to 29 ft-lb (29.4 to 39.2 N·m) 2.

The 2019 and 2025 manuals print the oil filter at 11 to 15 ft-lb. We could not find a separate drain plug value for the 2019+ VC-Turbo engine in the manual text. The oil drain plug torque page puts these values next to other makes.

Years we have not checked

The 2002–2006 (L31) and 2007–2012 (L32) Altima manuals are not on Nissan’s manuals site, and we have not found them elsewhere. No Altima owner’s manual gives a brake caliper torque.
