Honda Pilot lug nut torque by year

The 2016–2022 Honda Pilot is 94 ft-lb (127 N·m, 13 kgf·m), the highest wheel torque of any Honda we cover. The 1st-generation Pilot (2003–2008) is 80 ft-lb (108 N·m). The 3rd-generation manuals give the oil drain bolt as 29 lbf∙ft (39 N∙m).

What changed between generations

  • 1st generation (2003–2008): the 2003 and 2004 online-reference manuals say “Tighten the wheel nuts securely in the same crisscross pattern,” and give 80 lbf·ft (108 N·m, 11 kgf·m) 3 4. In the 2003 PDF the number sits in the figure area of the same page as the tightening step, so we matched it by layout.
  • 3rd generation (2016–2022): the 2016 and 2022 manuals give “Wheel nut torque: 94 lbf∙ft (127 N∙m, 13 kgf∙m)” 1 2.

The jump from 80 to 94 is why a generic “Honda 80 ft-lb” setting doesn’t fit every Honda. The CR-V, Civic and Accord stay at 80, but a 2016–2022 Pilot set to 80 is under Honda’s figure. We have not read a 2nd-generation (2009–2015) manual, so we can’t say which value that generation uses or when the change happened.

The 1st-generation manuals call for a crisscross pattern. The 2016+ manuals warn: “Do not over tighten the wheel nuts by applying extra torque using your foot or a pipe” 1. They give no re-torque mileage and no statement about lubricated threads. Our lug nut tightening guide covers the passes.

Oil drain bolt

The 3rd-generation manuals print the V6 drain bolt value: “Put a new washer on the drain bolt, then reinstall the drain bolt. Tightening torque: 29 lbf∙ft (39 N∙m, 4.0 kgf∙m)” 1 2. That is the same figure the 2017 Accord prints for its 6-cylinder. Honda’s 4-cylinder cars print 30 lbf∙ft (40 N∙m). See the drain-plug table above and the oil drain plug torque page.

Years we have not checked

We have not found the 2005–2008 manuals; the 1st generation is covered by 2003 and 2004. The 2009–2015 2nd-generation manuals are not on Honda’s technical site, and neither is a 2023-and-later 4th-generation manual. We don’t extend either known value to those years. No Pilot owner’s manual gives a brake caliper torque.
