Subaru Crosstrek lug nut torque by year
Every North American Crosstrek from the 2013 XV Crosstrek to the 2026 Hybrid is 89 ft-lb (120 N·m, 12 kgf·m). The 2013–2017 manuals also print 73.8 ft-lb (100 N·m), but only for export "Other models". It does not apply to US or Canadian cars.

Values as printed in the manufacturer’s owner’s manual for the year shown, not converted. Years between two checked manuals of the same generation are assumed to share the value. Open a row to read the exact wording.
What the owner’s manual says
- Re-check: When any of the wheels are removed and replaced for tire rotation or to change a flat tire, always check the tightness of the wheel nuts after driving approximately 600 miles (1,000 km). If any nut is loose, tighten it to the specified torque.
- Threads: Never apply oil to the threaded parts, wheel nuts, or tapered surface of the wheel. / Do not use oil or grease on the wheel studs or nuts when the spare tire is installed.
What the manuals show by generation
- 1st generation (XV Crosstrek / Crosstrek, 2013–2017): “Wheel nut tightening torque 89 lbf·ft (120 N·m, 12 kgf·m)” for U.S.-spec and Canada-spec models. We read it from the page image because the text layer is cut off 1. The 2014–2017 manuals and the 2015–2016 Hybrid print the same.
- 2nd generation (GT, 2018–2023): unchanged in 2018, 2019, 2022 and 2023 4 5.
- 3rd generation (GU, 2024 on), including Wilderness and the 2026 Hybrid: unchanged 6 2.
The 73.8 ft-lb figure is not for North America
The 2013–2017 manuals carry a second tire table headed “Other models”. These are export cars, listed with a 185/65R17 temporary spare at “73.8 lbf·ft (100 N·m, 10.2 kgf·m)” 3. A quick read of the PDF can turn this into a wrong US spec. The U.S.- and Canada-spec table on the page before it says 89 lbf·ft (120 N·m). Only the 89 applies to a North American car.
The Crosstrek shares 120 N·m with the Outback and the 2014-and-later Forester. Subaru’s footnote applies here too: the torque “is equivalent to applying approximately 88 to 110 lbf (40 to 50 kgf) at the end of the wheel nut wrench”. It also advises having hand-tightened nuts checked at a service facility.
Re-check and thread condition
“When any of the wheels are removed and replaced for tire rotation or to change a flat tire, always check the tightness of the wheel nuts after driving approximately 600 miles (1,000 km). If any nut is loose, tighten it to the specified torque” 2. On threads: “Never apply oil to the threaded parts, wheel nuts, or tapered surface of the wheel” 2. Tighten in a star pattern and finish with a torque wrench (lug nut tightening guide).
Years we have not checked
The 2021 Crosstrek manual is not on Subaru Canada’s list. The 2020 manual’s text layer lacks the spec page, but 2019 and 2022 agree. All values come from Subaru Canada’s official manuals, which list U.S.-spec and Canada-spec models. The owner’s manuals give no drain plug or brake caliper torque.
