What changed between generations
- WK (2005–2010): the 2010 User Guide, which also covers the SRT8, gives “The correct wheel nut tightness is 95 ft lbs (130 N•m)” 5.
- Early WK2 (2011–2012): the flat-tire procedure in the 2011 and 2012 manuals gives 110 ft lbs (150 N·m) 3 4.
- Later WK2 (2014–2021): a torque table gives 130 ft-lb (176 N·m), M14 x 1.50, 22 mm, in the 2014, 2015 and 2017 manuals 1 6 7.
- WL (2022 on), including Grand Cherokee L and 4xe: unchanged at 130 ft-lb (176 N·m) 8 2.
The WK2 is the one to watch. It is one generation on one platform, but the early manuals print 110 and the later ones 130. We publish each year as printed. We have not checked the 2013 manual, so we can’t say which value it carries. If you have a 2013, find the figure in your own manual rather than guessing.
Older Grand Cherokee manuals give the torque only as a sentence in the jacking and tire-changing steps. From 2014 there is a table with stud size and socket size. That is also when the M14 x 1.50 thread first appears in print.
Re-check and thread condition
The 2014-and-later manuals say: “After 25 miles (40 km), check the lug nut/bolt torque to be sure that all the lug nuts/bolts are properly seated against the wheel” 1. The 2022 and 2026 wording ends “properly tightened” 2. The table note asks for dealer-recommended nuts and to “clean or remove any dirt or oil before tightening” 8. Tighten in a star pattern and finish with a torque wrench (lug nut tightening guide).
Years we have not checked
We have not checked the full owner’s manuals for the 1999–2003 WJ, the 2005–2009 WK, the 2013 WK2 or the 2018–2021 WK2. One WJ value we found came from a copy on an enthusiast site, not from a Stellantis host, so we left it out until it can be checked against an official copy. No Grand Cherokee owner’s manual gives an oil drain plug or brake caliper torque.
